The I-EP MYP Inquiry Project is the inquiry-based master course that runs through MYP students' three years of middle school study. MYP designs inquiry themes for each academic year based on the six IB global contexts, with three themes per semester and one round of inquiry completed in two semesters.
I-EP MYP探究项目是贯穿MYP学生初中三年学习的探究类主课程。MYP根据IB六大全球背景设计每一个探究主题,每学期三个主题,一学年完成一轮探究。
On October, 20, 2023, all MYP G7 students presented their first inquiry project of this term at the Show Theatre. For this inquiry project, students were asked to work in groups to brainstorm, collect different kinds of information, make action plans, do researches, and have a field trip on their choice of topic around the theme of "Ren in Chaoshan", focusing on the global context of identity and relationships. At the end of the research project, they shared their achievements through the public presentations in English to MYP community.
Listing data, conducting experiments, making comparisons and analyses and so on. The children presented their ideas to the community in various ways. In this process, they have demonstrated excellent ability of data processing, thinking, doing researches, communicating, coordinating with others and public speaking, winning the applause of the audiences.
2023年10月20日,MYP全体七年级的学生在秀丽剧院进行了本学期第一次探究项目展示。本次探究项目,学生需要围绕“仁在潮汕”这一探究主题,以小组为单位,着眼于特征/认同和关系这一全球背景,按照各自选择的研究方向,进行头脑风暴、资料搜集、制定计划、开展调研、实地考察,并在研究项目结束时,向老师、家长及其它年级的同学以全英公开演讲的方式,分享他们的探究成果。
罗列数据、实验证明、对比分析...孩子们通过多样的方式向社区展示各自的观点。整个过程中,他们展现出了卓越的资料整合能力、团队合作能力、思考研究能力、沟通协调能力与公开演讲能力,赢得了在场观众的阵阵掌声。
Ren, as one of the five Confucian principles, is an important value of traditional Chinese culture. It refers to upholding a nice, friendly, caring and respectful attitude in interpersonal relationships. In the family, Ren means being obedient to your parents and caring for your relatives and friends; in society, Ren is expressed as caring for the disadvantaged and paying attention to social welfare. By researching the economic development of Chaozhou, the group found that as the economy keeps growing, the transport industry, the traditional handicraft industry and the welfare in Chaozhou are also being improved and upgraded. These positive changes not only improve people's living standards, but also reflect the society's concern and care for people's well-being. This group was very united. Members helped each other and presented a perfect presentation at the end, although they had been facing the challenge of member asking for leave from discussion at the beginning.
通过研究潮州的经济发展状况,该小组发现随着经济的不断发展,潮州交通运输业、传统手工业以及医疗养老措施也在不断改进和提升。这些积极的变化不仅提高了人们的生活水平,也反映了社会对于人们福祉的关注和关怀。这个小组虽然在一开始一直面临着成员请假的挑战,但他们非常团结,成员间互帮互助,并在最后呈现出了完美的展示。
The group conducted a series of in-depth explorations of the Chaoshan dialect, which they suggested that it is not only a linguistic tool, but also a reflection of the kinship, friendship and community relationships between people, a bond that brings people together, and a reflection of the value of "Ren" in the Chinese culture. This group was very conscientious in the process of this project and fully demonstrated the IB learner quality of "inquirer".
该小组对潮汕的方言进行了一系列的深入探索,他们表示潮汕话不仅是一种语言工具,更反映了人们彼此之间的亲情、友情和邻里关系,是将人们聚集在一起的纽带,体现了中华文化中“仁”的价值观。这一小组在探究的过程中⾮常认真,充分展现出了“积极探究”的IB学习者素养。
This is my group. In the field of education, our group have pointed out that the Chaoshan government attached great importance to the improvement of the quality of local education. In addition, overseas Chinese in Chaoshan also actively involved in supporting both of the construction and development of local schools, caring for their townee through donations and other ways, making important contributions to education in Chaoshan. By the way, our group members come from different contries and have different backgrounds in their growth. Facing the language barrier, we were not discouraged but kept communicating, tried to use various ways to allow our partners to understand others' views, and accomplished our inquiry tasks with great excellence.
这是我的小组,我们小组研究的是潮汕的教育。经研究发现,潮汕政府十分注重本土教育质量的提高,大力发展优质教育。此外,潮汕华侨也积极参与支持当地学校的建设与发展,通过捐赠等方式关爱同乡,为潮汕的教育事业作出了重要的贡献。值得一提的是,我们小组成员来自不同国家,有着不同的成长背景,面对客观存在的语⾔障碍,我们并没有⽓馁,⽽是不断通过沟通,尝试运用各种方式耐心地让对⽅理解自己的意思,并出色地完成了我们的探究任务。
The name of "Chaoshan" began in the Sui Dynasty, and with the arrival of Han Yu, the place became richer and safer. The group delved into the history of Chaoshan about "Ren" and analyzed the important events along the history. During the final presentation, the group encountered an unforeseen situation in which a student ask for leave and had to urgently redistribute the speaking parts. However, due to the full participation of each group member in all parts of the project, this group could quickly solve the problem and successfully completed the presentation, fully demonstrating their ability of flexibility and adaptability!
“潮汕”之名始于隋朝,随着韩愈的到来,这个地方也变得更加富裕和安全了。该小组深入研究了潮汕关于“仁”的历史,并对历史上的重要事件进行了分析探讨。在最后的成果展示中,该小组还遇到了一位同学请假的意外情况,需要紧急重新分配演讲内容。然而,由于每个小组成员都充分参与了探究项目的各个部分,该小组很快就解决了这个问题并且顺利地完成了展示,充分展现了他们的临场应变能力。
This group explored the architecture of Chaoshan by taking the Guangji Bridge, Guangji Building, Hanwengong Shrine, Chaozhou Ancient City and Pai Fang Street as examples. They found that all these buildings have distinctive features and high aesthetic value, and their reality meaning is closely related to "Ren". Speaking in English was the biggest difficulty encountered by this group, but to my surprise, through endless hard work and practice, they managed to do it, and they transcend themselves.
该小组以广济桥、广济楼、韩文公祠、潮州古城、牌坊街为例探究了潮汕的建筑,他们发现这些建筑都具有鲜明的特色和较高的审美价值,其现实意义都与“仁”息息相关。全英演讲是这一小组遇到的最大困难,但让⼈惊讶的是,通过不懈的努力和练习,他们成功做到了,他们突破了自己。
Focusing on the topic of "Chaoshan environment", the group members travelled to Chaoshan with their equipment. Under the guidance of the science teacher, they went to different areas to collect water and conduct water quality experiments. Through the results of these tests, they proved that Chaoshan has achieved remarkable results in the treatment of sewage and protection of the environment, and recognized that the local government has paid very great attention to the natural environment. In the process of the investigation, some of the experiments they did have been beyond the scope of the group members' current learning, but they were still active in their study, and their perseverance and spirit of inuqiry was an example for us to learn from.
围绕“潮汕环境”这一话题,该组的小组成员们拿着器材去往潮汕,在科学老师的指导下,到不同的水域进行取水并实施水质检测。通过这些检测结果,他们证明了潮汕在治理污水和保护环境方面取得了显著成效,体会到当地政府对自然环境的关爱和重视。在探究过程中,大部分科学实验其实早已超出了该小组成员目前的学习范围,但他们依然积极主动地进行学习,其锲而不舍、迎难而上的探究精神是我们学习的榜样。
The group specialized in topic of "Chaoshan Food", travelling to different places in Chaoshan to taste various local delicacies and interviewing local chefs to gain a deeper understanding of Chaoshan culinary culture. By a series of tasting and communication, they deeply appreciated the love, the warmth and the connotation of "Ren" behind the food. The whole group of students was very conscientious and active, no matter how difficult they encountered, they still kept positive attitude and tried to find solutions.
该小组专注于探究“潮汕美食”,他们亲自前往潮汕的不同地方品尝各种当地特产,并通过采访当地厨师深入了解潮汕的饮食文化。在品味与交流中,他们深深体会到美食背后传递的关爱与温暖,体会到美食背后关于“仁”的内涵。这组同学都非常认真,无论遇到多大的困难,他们都保持着积极的态度,努力寻找解决方案。
This group have searched a large amount of documentary materials and deeply analyzed the "Chaoshan culture" from the aspects of art, custom, religion, rituals and festivals to revealed the hidden embodiment of "Ren" behind the Chaoshan culture, such as filial Piety, gratitude, hospitality and so on. The students in this group always discussed the project together during evening self-study time, and this proactive behaviour have reflected their enthusiasm and dedication to the project. They were admirable in their rigour, seriousness and persistence.
这一小组查阅了大量的文献资料,从艺术宗教、待客之道、祭祀习惯、节日习俗等方面剖析了“潮汕文化”,揭露了潮汕文化背后隐藏着的关于“仁”的体现,如孝敬父母、知恩感恩、热情好客等等。该小组的学生几乎每个晚自习都会聚在一起讨论,这种积极主动的行为体现了他们对项目的热情和投入,他们的严谨、认真、坚持让人钦佩。
Thank you for Amy's article. This was the first presentation for the G7 students. Stepping out of their comfort zones and exploring unknown fields, each group of students faced different difficulties. However, the children demonstrated a positive attitude to learning, excellent academic abilities and great teamwork, both in the inquiry process and in the presentation pocess. With the unity and joint efforts, each group successfully completed the task. The successful presentation of this inquiry project is the reward of the children's hard work and an important milestone in their learning path, which will encourage them to become better in their future learning.
